The Peugeot 206 was released in 1998 as a replacement for the Peugeot 205 and ran right through until September 2005, before being replaced by the 207 in April 2006. The 206CC (short for Coupe Cabriolet) was launched locally at the Sydney Motor Show in October 2002, and was one of a number of all-new models launched simultaneously - along with the 307 hatch and the 607 large luxury sedan - by a new national distributor determined to breathe life into what had been for several years a dormant and staid option in the Euro category. These three fresh models and exciting new marketing campaigns set off something of a renaissance for the Lion marque in Australia, with Peugeot's annual sales volumes more than tripling in number over the ensuing three years.
