The second half of the 1990s saw two trends emerge which significantly altered the automotive scene: firstly, the rise of the SUV as a passenger car alternative; and secondly the reappearance of the compact roadster. In the final few years of the twentieth century, cashed-up sports car fans were treated to the arrival of a flurry of desirable new two-seater roadsters – most notably the Porsche Boxster, the Mercedes-Benz SLK and the BMW Z3.
The BMW Z3 was launched in 1995 and ran through until 2002, with a mid-life refresh appearing for 1999. Designed by Japanese stylist Joji Nagashima, the Z3 was made famous by its starring role in the 1996 James Bond film 'GoldenEye' alongside Pierce Brosnan. Based on the E36-series BMW 3-series, the Z3 was offered in both 4-cylinder and straight 6-cylinder forms with the latter distinguished by twin tailpipes.
This last-of-the-line model year 2002 E36-7 BMW Z3 2.2 is finished in classic Imola Red with a black leather interior, the latter complemented by alloy-style trim. It has had just the one owner from new and has covered a remarkably low 88,781km. It presents in exceptional original condition, and comes complete with all its original factory literature, manuals, spare key, owner's folder and log book service history.
