It was the actual car displayed at the 1990 Melbourne Motor Show, making it one of the most historically important R129s in the country.

It was the first Mercedes flagship line to be known officially as the “S-Class” (short for the German ‘Sonderklasse’ or ‘special class’) and went on to enjoy significant sales success right through to the end of its run in 1980. The 450SE version of the W116 was crowned European Car of the Year for 1974, just one example of the enviable critical acclaim which the 116 earned for itself internationally.

It is an Australian-compliance 450SE, a comparatively rare car due to the fact that the majority of 450s for Australia were ordered in the long-wheelbase (SEL) format. This particular vehicle is finished in Grey Blue metallic (code 906), with a parchment leather interior highlighted by lustrous zebrano timber trim. It has covered a remarkably low 117,736km from new, and comes complete with all the original factory literature, up-to-date service log book, Becker radio manuals and more, all contained within the factory valise. The vehicle was ordered by celebrated heart surgeon the late Dr. Victor Chang initially for his father, and later became part of Dr. Chang’s own personal vehicle collection in Sydney in 1987. We have documentation of its ordering history in correspondence with the Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre (part of the Daimler-Benz Museum in Stuttgart) confirming its build specification.

The Mercedes CLS line was marketed as an exclusive four-door coupé, and was positioned between the E-Class (on which it was based from an engineering perspective) and the flagship S-Class. This 1988-built and complied Toyota FJ62 Landcruiser is an extraordinary survivor of a bygone era, when 4WDs were built tough, rugged and without all the luxury add-ons demanded by the mostly-urban SUV buyer of 2022. Mercedes-Benz unveiled the W123 series “Compact” in late 1975 and the first examples reached Australian shores in late ’76 for the ’77 model year. The series ran right through until 1986, and it quickly established itself as the standard-setter for mid-size luxury sedans globally. It replaced the previous W114 series and in total some 2.7 million units were produced, making it the most popular Mercedes-Benz range ever made and it is today a model increasingly sought-after by collectors. Designed by legendary in-house stylist Bruno Sacco, the W123 picked up design cues from its larger W116 S-Class sibling and presented a very modern face in the mid-1970s. In particular the interior design was a revelation, and still looks quite contemporary today. Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz has recently returned to the “eyeball” air vent design for most of its current models - a feature that was a hallmark of the 123 dash. The 300D was one of the most popular variants of the W123-series sold in this country, and this particular 1977 example of the legendary 5-cylinder diesel is arguably the very best one available today.

The W108-series was launched in 1965 to replace the W111 "Fintail" models and ran through to 1972. Designed by Frenchman Paul Bracq, its simple but elegant lines remain as timelessly beautiful today as they did almost 60 years ago. This 1972-built 280S is one of the very last of the line, and is finished in Aqua Blue with a blue MB-Tex interior. It was delivered new by Morrison's Mercedes-Benz of Chatswood to a North Shore customer and remained in the original owner's care into the early 2000s. It has covered 187,013 miles and comes complete with spare keys, all the original factory literature and manuals, service log book and a large number of receipts for mechanical work done on the vehicle dating back to the early '70s. The car is in excellent original condition, with the paint, trim and dash timber all in very good order for the car's age. The original AWA AM radio remains in the dash, complete with 8-track cartridge facility and even the operating instructions and warranty certificate. This particular example is unusual by way of the optional equipment fitted at the time it was built. It was factory-ordered with the optional 'pistol-grip' automatic transmission selector (rather than the standard column shift) along with a very rare electric sliding steel sunroof. The 280S is powered by the 2.8L straight-six M130 engine, with fuel fed by twin carburettors. It develops 138 horsepower (103kW) and drives to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission designed and built in-house by Daimler-Benz. This remarkable example of the very last of the W108 line drives beautifully and delights with the sporty note from its exhaust, being somewhat evocative of the W113 'Pagoda' 280SL which shared the same M130 motor. Given its originality, excellent provenance and large amount of supporting paperwork, this wonderful 280S is highly collectible and we commend it highly to any collector of the remarkable vehicles from this golden age of the famous Stuttgart marque.

Designed by Frenchman Paul Bracq and very much inspired by the lines of his own timeless W111 coupe from 1961, the W114/115-series "Compact" sedan range was launched in 1968 as a replacement for the W110 Fintail models and to sit below the new W108 large sedan range. It quickly established itself as an incredibly durable vehicle, capable of amassing enormous mileages with absolute mechanical reliability. The six-cylinder petrol-engined versions bore the W114 designation, while the fours and the diesels were allotted W115. The series ran right through until 1976, and proved highly popular in Australia as a smaller alternative to the larger and more luxurious W116 S-Class...hence the popular "Compact" nickname of the time .
This remarkable Australian-complied and delivered W114 280E dates from 1974 and is finished in sparkling White with a Tobacco MB-Tex interior, the latter featuring lustrous Zebrano timber trim across the dash. Delivered new on 29 November 1974 by Stellar Motors Mercedes-Benz in Bega NSW to a lady from Tilba, it has covered just 146,403km and presents in extraordinarily clean and original condition. It comes complete with all of its original manuals, factory literature, owner's folder, service log book and a wealth of receipts going all the way back to the car's first scheduled service. Everything about this 280E presents and functions as it should – from the ice-cold air-conditioning through to the central locking, rare optional sliding electric steel sunroof and the original Becker Mexico radio/cassette. The 2.8L 136kW M110 twin-cam straight six engine performs strongly, and the 4-speed automatic transmission provides crisp and smooth gear changes. In 1973 the W114/115 series received a significant facelift, and this 1974 example benefits from the upgrade's new frontal treatment with wider, squat grille and single bumper treatment, fluted rear tail lights and the removal of the front door quarter windows. As a 280E it was also the top of the range, and was sold in much smaller numbers than its petrol 230 and 250 stablemates. Sitting on its original factory 14-inch steel wheels with colour-keyed hubcaps, this stunning W114 is quite possibly the finest of its type available anywhere in Australia at the present time and easily the best of its type seen by us since the late 1990s. These cars are becoming increasingly rare and are being viewed as highly collectible, and there is no doubt that this very special example will find its way into the hands of a serious collector extremely quickly.
