The W204-series C-Class was launched in Australia for the 2008 model year, and quickly took out the prestigious Wheels Magazine Car of the Year Award locally for its performance, advanced technology and excellent value for money. It continued the market-leading tradition of its W203 predecessor, comprehensively outselling its BMW 3-series and Audi A4 rivals.The W204 line received its mid-life update in mid-2011 (for the 2012 model year), with significant changes to the car's exterior design, interior layout and the engine options available to Australian buyers. In particular, the 6-cylinder version of the C-Class (originally designated C280, and then C300 from the 2010 model year) was upgraded from the 3.0L engine to a 3.5L unit, even though the model designation remained as C300. With the mid-life upgrade's increase in engine capacity came a significant uplift in the C300's performance, with power increasing from 170kW to 185kW, and torque from 300Nm to 340Nm.
