This 1996-built and complied Toyota 80 Series Landcruiser GXL is an excellent example of the series, when 4WDs were built tough, rugged and without all the luxury add-ons demanded by the mostly-urban SUV buyer of 2022. These FJ80s were built to do a job, and to do it reliably, cost-effectively and with a minimum of fuss.
This particular Mica Red Metallic example is a GXL, and it comes in a 4-speed Auto with the very desirable 40th Anniversary alloy wheels colour keyed, bull bar, rear bar and side flares. The previous owner was elderley and owned it since 1998. It has covered just 229,018km from new and and drives perfectly. It is powered by the 1FZ-FE 4.5L twin cam six-cylinder petrol motor, which develops 158kW of power/373Nm of torque and drives through a 4-speed automatic transmission. A transfer case allows the driver to select 4WD high or low range on demand, and also has a center locking deferential at the click of a button or automatically selects when in low range. It comes with the very rare option of dual airbags and ABS brakes and cruise control. The interior - which is trimmed in the original grey cloth - has been very well-cared for and has had sheep skin covers up untilnow, with minimal signs of wear and tear.
