The Series I Land Rover Discovery was launched globally in 1989, and locally in Australia in 1991 in 3-door form. The Discovery was the first new model series since the launch of the 1970 Range Rover, and quickly established itself as a seriously capable vehicle in high profile motorsport and endurance events such as the 1992 Camel Trophy staged in the wilds of Guyana. The success of the first generation created impetus for the model's ongoing popularity, with the legendary 'Disco' now in its fifth iteration.
