This exceptionally significant early-build 1990 Mercedes-Benz 500SL (R129) is finished in Arctic White (147U) over a Black leather interior (071A), and is one of the very first R129s ever constructed – completed in July 1989 and used by Mercedes-Benz as the launch vehicle for the Australian market. It was the actual car displayed at the 1990 Melbourne Motor Show, making it one of the most historically important R129s in the country.

Initially retained by Mercedes-Benz Australia as a factory-held demonstrator and press/show vehicle for the introduction of the R129 series, it was subsequently sold by Lane Motors Mercedes-Benz of South Melbourne on 21 September 1990 to one of Australia’s well-known billionaires, who retained the car for four years before it was acquired by its most recent long-term owner.
