The Bentley Continental GT debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2003, and was the first all-new design unique to Bentley in 70 years – up to this point it had shared forms with its previous owner, Rolls-Royce. The Continental GT was designed by Belgian-born Dirk van Braeckel, with chief inspiration for the car’s flowing lines coming from the R-Type Continental 4-seat coupé of 1952. According to van Braeckel, he was guided by the brand’s design philosophy: “A Bentley is the perfect long-distance traveller, the ultimate statement of the sporty gentleman’s driving machine…a sculpture in automotive terms.” This majestic example of the first Continental GT was built to special order for an Eastern Suburbs customer, and is a one-owner vehicle from new with just 35,644km on the odometer. Following a seven month wait, the car was delivered by Bentley Sydney on 10 March 2005 and is finished in elegant Moonbeam metallic with the interior trimmed in Portland beige with Nautic blue highlights and burr walnut timber veneer. It comes complete with all of its original factory literature, a considerable amount of relevant documentation, three remote keys and a service history confirming the best of care exclusively by Bentley Sydney – including its most recent service with them on 8 March this year. The car has been meticulously cared-for throughout its life and always garaged, and its condition without doubt would make it one of the very best available today. Indeed, so beautifully maintained is the car that the owner was asked by Bentley on a number of occasions to lend it to them for display at new product launches and special retrospective functions. Among the list of enhancing features chosen by the owner when this GT was ordered are burr walnut veneer timber panels in the door trims and 19-inch multi-spoke factory alloy wheels, with these bespoke options coming on top of the car’s lavish standard specification. The Continental GT is powered by the 6.0L twin-turbo W12 engine, which makes 412kW of power and 650Nm of torque and drives through a 6-speed sports automatic transmission to all four wheels via a Torsen permanent 4-wheel drive system. The combination enables the GT to despatch the 100km/h dash in just 4.8 seconds, on its way to a claimed top speed of 318km/h. We seldom see cars which have been so assiduously maintained, and we would strongly recommend that any serious buyer makes an appointment at the earliest opportunity to inspect this magnificent, low mileage example of the early series Continental GT.
